Popular Creole Dishes You Can Prepare for Mardi Gras

Posted on

Since Mardi Gras is fast approaching, our next few blogs will be all about Mardi Gras, its long history of traditions, and most importantly, the delicious customary food. If you read our last blog, we briefly outlined the history of Mardi Gras and how it came to America. Next, we would like to jump right on into the fun stuff, traditional Mardi Gras dishes!

Louisiana is known for its unique blended culture. More specifically, New Orleans is known for its culturally rich background, which includes Caribbean, Spanish, and French influences. It is often said that New Orleans is more like a Caribbean city than an American one. With so many different influences, New Orleans has developed a culture that is truly unique and specific to the area. Given its Caribbean background, many of the most famous and traditional recipes that hail from New Orleans are Creole dishes that combine French, Spanish, West African, and a number of other influences. Today, many of us are familiar with and enjoy several of these dishes. Dishes such as jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and dirty rice are Cajun staples. These dishes come in all kinds of renditions and everyone can personalize them how they wish. They are often some of the most popular and traditional dishes prepared on Mardi Gras.
